Canterbury named as one of UK's top destinations

By Chloe Wallace

THE Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice has recently named Canterbury as one of the UK’s top tourist destinations. Listed at number 14, Canterbury triumphed over Manchester, Cornwall and even Cardiff.

Judged by the millions of travellers themselves, these awards are set to honour the destinations, along with their welcoming and appealing nature.

Home to the acclaimed 14th century stories written by the famous author Geoffrey Chaucer, the city has never been more popular.

Whilst Canterbury is mainly a student based city, many tourists are drawn in year after year due to the remarkable history of the city, along with famous attractions. Canterbury Cathedral is iconic, the oldest in the country and famous for its beautiful and historic architecture. It’s not a surprise that it’s often bursting with visitors all year round.

The city offers a wide range for all ages, with a wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. Well known for their low priced British souvenirs and friendly manner, The Merchant Chandler offers a variety of typically English gifts for those to take back with them. Bhupendia Rai, shop assistant, told us that a majority of their customers are tourists.
